Discernment
So I am writing to you not because you don’t know the truth but because you know the difference between truth and lies.
1 JOHN2:21
Have you noticed how some older and wiser people don’t waste their words? It’s as if they have learned to measure what they say in order to have maximum impact with their message. When the apostle John chose to write a letter to the early Christians, he didn’t want to waste words either. As an older person, he wanted his “children” to live freely in the eternal truth of Jesus and not get caught up in the trends of culture that ebb and flow throughout history. He wasn’t going to throw away words and ink and papyrus on people who weren’t going to listen. He knew that these early followers of Jesus would be strengthened by his message. How do you receive advice and encouragement from older people in your life? Are there some experienced people in your life who have wisdom to share with you? How are you going to make time to listen to them today?
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, thank you for the wisdom and guidance of those who have led the way for me in faith. Amen.
