O Lord, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced,
or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.
PSALM25:1–3
It is the beauty of that day that adds shock. The eternally brilliant blue sky was broken by the sudden strike of horror. How can a day so beautifully clear be clouded with such darkness? The mechanics of death, moving across the highest reaches of the sky, drew hell to earth.
God’s presence stands in stark contrast to the visceral hate-filled nature of evil. God runs to the disarray, concerned for his earth, fighting through the smoke, embracing the hurting, carrying the fallen, paying honor and restoring dignity to those stripped of life; he is weeping with those in fear, mourning with those in loss, emboldening people with courage, and thus making our hearts alive in the valley of the shadow of death.
Pray for the Day:
Jesus, I remember those lost in the debris caused by evil. I remember those who responded with your courage and love, offering their own lives for the sake of others. I hate evil, Lord. May your brilliance overcome it. Amen.
