Hothead
People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.
PROVERBS14:29
Hothead. Jesus was never called this, but Peter was. Certainly. He was ready to retaliate, to take a swipe at someone if necessary. But Jesus told everyone to put away their swords. Chill out, Peter. Calm down, Andrew. James, that’s enough. Take it easy now. Jesus had passion. Buckets of it. But somehow he was able to harness this passion into effective action rather than ineffective anger. Even as the rulers plotted against him, as the mobs rejected him, as the disciples slept while he wept, Jesus never lost his cool.
His holiness was at his fingertips. His wrath at his disposal. His creative and destructive capability within the sound of his summons. But he kept them sheathed. He would only use it when needed against those who would dare try to stop his eternal plan. He would only let it simmer when people were oppressed from finding him. His anger was only and ever righteous. And it was under his control.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, make me like you. My temper has done more to destroy relationships than to create them. Forgive me and help me wisely control my anger today. Amen.
