June 13 – Pouncing Prosecutors
God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
JAMES 4:12
What if lawyers could make the judgment in a case? Instead of pleading or prosecuting, what if they just jumped to their own conclusions of freedom or condemnation? Or what if the witnesses in the case could declare innocence or guilt based not on what they had seen but on their one-sided perceptions? In either of these scenarios, the justice system would absolutely crumble. There is only one person who is ultimately allowed to make the final judgment, and that is the judge. The judge might use a jury occasionally, but even the jury relents to the rules established by the judge.
So when people are judgmental against or in favor of someone, justice is skewed. Pouncing prosecutors and drooling defenders are unreliable in their accusations and discernment. Ultimately, judgmental attitudes themselves will be tried and sentenced. Every person will appear before the Judge one day, and those who took the Lord’s responsibility upon themselves will have some pretty tricky explaining to do.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, make me slow to judge others and quick to place myself before the mercy of your court. Amen.
