Perfectionism / Merschmectionism
Even perfection has its limits, but your commands have no limit.
PSALM 119:96
No wonder perfectionists are always dissatisfied! Perfect is never good enough. Even if everything were completed to its most excellent potential, it still would fall short. The problem is that perfection sets a bar—a very high bar—that has a limit. Once it is reached, if it ever truly is, it leaves a person feeling incomplete because it is limited. The enjoyment of perfectionism is limited, the scope of perfectionism is limited, and the lasting effect of perfectionism is also limited.
But God’s patterns have no limit. They are boundless. Perfectionists are always dissatisfied because they are chasing the wrong pursuit! God’s commands blow right past the limited gratification of perfectionism and open the door to abundant, overflowing life—life that is more fulfilling than any limited human goal could ever dream to be.
Pray for the Day:
Jesus, don’t let me stress ever again about being perfect. Let me strive to hear your voice and pursue your commands for my life. Amen.
