Christmas Information
Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who is called the Messiah.
MATTHEW 1:16
Mary and Joseph weren’t really into the Christmas spirit. They didn’t decorate a Christmas tree. They didn’t bake cookies or drink peppermint mochas or put up the mistletoe. Can you believe that they didn’t go caroling either? Look, they weren’t scrooges; they just had other things on their mind.
There was no place for roasting chestnuts over a fire. They couldn’t even find a place. Some (generous?) person allowed them to stay with their animals, but that was no place for a teenage girl who was going into labor.
Christmas is just a week away. Have you read—actually read—the account of Jesus’ birth this year yet? Rather than just getting your Christmas details from carols or from reruns of old holiday TV programs, what if you were to read a couple pages of the Bible too? You might be surprised to find out that Father Christmas isn’t real, Santa isn’t in the Bible, and eggnog is not biblical.
Pray for the Day:
Jesus, don’t let me take you for granted this next week. Amen.
