Future Generations
Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done.
PSALM 22:30–31
Psalm 22 is a messianic lament that is intermingled with hope. Even though the writer, David, is going through terror, his song offers a prayer of blessing for future generations. He envisions a time when his generation’s unselfish faith and sacrifice will produce abundance among the generations who are yet to come.
The unborn take a place of importance in David’s vision. They are, perhaps, the most important generation to be considered in the foundation being established. David foresees that those alive today should consider the practice of faith of those yet to be born. One generation is to equip the faith of the next, who in turn equips the faith of the next, who in turn equips the faith of the next, and so on, for generations to come. David believed that how people respond to their circumstances today impacts how generations not yet born will respond in the future. Our children will also serve him.
Pray for the Day:
Jesus, right before you gave your life on the cross, you had the same attitude when you prayed in the garden for future generations. Amen.
