October 22
Nacho Libre
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.
EPHESIANS 4:1
Many of us struggle with God’s calling on our life. We are tempted to think that if God wants something from us, then he’ll make the path clear for us. But when we hit fog and gravel, we can grow uncertain about the path God has. Nacho Libre, the Luchadore, found himself wondering about the same thing. (Yes, this is from a movie, and it is a bit cheesy, but be patient with me here.)
At one point, after losing another match in the ring, Nacho grew quite concerned about his calling to wrestle. So first he prayed: “Precious Father, why have you given me this desire to wrestle and then made me such a stinky warrior?” Secondly, he didn’t let go of the yearning. No matter what testing he faced, he wouldn’t let go of his holy angst to do something for God. This
determination, along with the support of his closest friends, refined Nacho’s heart. He came to comprehend that God wanted him to serve his calling rather than be served by his calling.
Pray for the Day:
Jesus, let me never give up my pursuit of how you want to use me in this world. Amen.
