Theological Eyes
So Paul, standing before the council, addressed them as follows: “Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way, for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unknown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.”
ACTS 17:22–23
Through what lens do you see your culture? Do you notice that the good news of Jesus is embedded in the popular stories of your society? Look with theological eyes for a moment. That great story about human survival is so riveting because God created us to live life eternally. That great song about the heartache of a broken relationship is so true because God created us to live in communion with him and with others.
At one point in his life, the apostle Paul walked around the city of Athens. He could have seen everything wrong with the false system of worship there, but instead, as he observed that culture, he found connection points to share Jesus. We must learn to view our world through the theological eyes of the Lord.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, thank you for making your message evident throughout the world. Give me eyes to see where your story breaks into the story of others. Amen.
