Causing Trouble
Not finding them there, they dragged out Jason and some of the other believers instead and took them before the city council. “Paul and Silas have caused trouble all over the world,” they shouted, “and now they are here disturbing our city, too.”
ACTS 17:6
Paul and Silas kept traveling and sharing about Jesus. From town to town. The more they shared, the more they seemed to disrupt the economies and political structures of the regions. When they came to a city called Thessalonica, several people, including a lot of prominent women, gave their lives to Jesus. This upset the local marketplace, which relied upon the corrupt worship system in the local temples. So a mob started a riot. They were so angry they attacked the home of a man named Jason, where Paul and Silas had been staying. They dragged Jason to the city council, along with some other Christians, and threatened them with treason against the government. How would you respond in this situation? Would you stand tall in faith and love them, even in the midst of their threats?
Pray for the Day:
Dear Jesus, I understand that there will be people who reject the good news because it disrupts their habits and desires. This might mean they’ll reject me too. Give me courage to stand tall in faith and love, even in the midst of threats. Your gospel turns the world upside down. Use me to make a difference in this world for you. Amen.
