Legacy
The people of Israel served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him—those who had personally experienced all that the Lord had done for Israel.
JOSHUA 24:31
When Israel’s leader Joshua died, a remarkable comment was made. It was said that during his lifetime that the people of Israel “served the Lord.” The way that Joshua lived his life encouraged people long after he died to continue following hard after God. He left a remarkably good legacy for the generations to come.
If you could look ahead many years into the future, what kind of legacy would you like to have left on this earth? One way of thinking about this is to consider what kind of words you would like spoken about you at your funeral, or what phrase you’d like written on your epitaph (the message that is etched onto your tombstone). This isn’t a morbid thought about death. Rather, it is a proactive thought about your life. How will you have lived? What stories do you want told? Do you want others to follow in your footsteps? What difference do you want to have
made in this world? Living in the light of our legacy should cause us to live for eternity rather than the fleeting pleasures of this world.
Pray for the Day:
Jesus, let my choices today leave a positive impact on others for years to come. Amen.
