“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
One of the greatest words in the Bible is the word with. Again and again we learn in both the Old Testament and the New that God is with his people. Yahweh, the great I am, is also Immanuel, who is God with us. He tells us over and over again throughout the Bible, “I am with you.”
This concept of the Lord being so intimate and so near is especially important to the prophet Isaiah. The people of Israel, who at the time had become a scattered and scared nation, needed to know that God was not distant from them. In fact, God spoke, God heard, God loved, God moved, and God dwelt closely. “Everyone!” Isaiah shouted, “listen to what the Lord says! We are not alone! He is with us! So hold fast!” Knowing that God is near makes everything much more bearable.
Pray for the Day:
Dear Jesus, I can be bold today because you are with me. No matter what circumstances I find myself in today, let me dance your steps, sing your songs, and see your vision. Amen.
