April 4 – Speak Out
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed.
P R O V E R B S 3 1 : 8
Talk about someone who made a difference—the world was changed by Martin Luther King Jr. He painted grand scenes of unity with words like freedom, justice, and hope. He provided a vision for the future through creative patience, resolve, and forgiveness. People loved him for his voice, and callous people hated him for his impact.
He spoke about the example of Jesus, who gave voice to the voiceless and ushered people to the seat of God’s justice. King was especially impacted by the way Jesus offered mercy instead of retribution, even as the forces of hatred closed in around him. When given a chance to fight back or run away, Jesus demanded of his closest follower, “Put away your sword.”
Martin Luther King Jr., a champion of the dignity for every person, was assassinated by a narrow-minded bullet on April 4, 1968. It was a very bleak day. But the world’s attention had already been caught and the climate had already been changed. Even death cannot hold back the powerful ring of freedom.
Pray for the Day:
Jesus, give me the inner motivation to speak with your voice for those who need an advocate. Amen.
