March 25 – Quake
Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it.
MAT T H EW 2 8 : 2
The tomb that held Jesus didn’t know what hit it! It was a new tomb, a respectful burial spot offered by a wealthy man near a garden. A peaceful place. Then the earthquake hit. The entrance to the tomb, a huge stone chiseled round, was rolled aside. The new tomb, which had been used, was once again available for rent. Jesus had risen from the dead.
The first people on the scene were guards who had been stationed there to keep things from getting shook up. But the tremor, not to mention the angel of the Lord who seemed to be casually sitting on the stone, made the guards quake in their boots. The second group of people on the scene were women who were close followers of Jesus. They actually spoke to the angel, who informed them that Jesus had been raised from the dead just as he said would happen. Instead of fainting like the guards, they turned their fear into great joy and ran to tell others the good news that Jesus had risen.
Pray for the Day:
Lord Jesus, not even death could stop you from walking on this earth. Thank you for conquering everything that stood in the way of life. Amen.
